Family Physician comes to Charlevoix

Our area has gained a new family practice specialist.  Mark Smith, MD, has opened a practice at 14730 Park Avenue, on the Charlevoix Area Hospital campus, where he will see patients every Wednesday.  Dr. Smith also staffs the hospital’s emergency department several days a week.

A Michigan native, Dr. Smith studied at Aquinas College, earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, and served his residency at Grand Rapids Family Medicine.  He is certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Area residents may remember Dr. Smith from the East Jordan Family Health Center, where he was on staff in 2003.  Prior to coming to Charlevoix with his family, he practiced for four years in Manistee, Michigan.

Dr.Smith is married to Mary Ivy, MD, an OB/Gyn specialist who recently joined Charlevoix Women’s Health Care. The couple, along with their two young children, is making their home in Charlevoix.   “This was such a wonderful opportunity,” says Dr. Smith, adding, “Both of us love this area and we’re happy to be back.”

For the time being, Dr. Smith will be in his office only on Wednesday, although he looks forward to building a practice and expanding office hours as time and space become available.  With a focus on comprehensive, preventive health care, his practice will include people of all ages—from kids to geriatric patients.
