CAHF and CTAC are teaming up for an exciting and fun project to benefit our joint mission of enhancing our communities and making them "healthier" across many facets of life. Proceeds from this project will evenly split between the organizations. For CAHF, proceeds will go toward our community health education outreach programs and for CTAC, proceeds will be designated toward Youth Arts Education Programs. At the center of this project is a "treasure" book, telling the history of our northern Michigan region through the eyes of a child traveling through the ages. Found within the story and illustrations are clues to the secret location of a "treasure" - $5,000 in cash!

The book (printed locally by Mitchell Graphics) is beautifully illustrated by 14 northern Michigan artists and written by Patti Aikin, a CTAC Board Member, CAHF volunteer and Charlevoix Resident. Within its pages, the book weaves a mystical tale of northern Michigan History, giving the reader hints as to the secret location of the $5,000 treasure. The illustrations, reprinted from the original art, will support the story and add clues as to the location. The reader must figure out the clues to correctly identify the location, then file an entry on an official, numbered card. The original illustrations will be sold, and we will have a very limited number of prints of each illustration available as well. Prints will be on sale ($125 each) at Charlevoix Area Hospital Gift Shop and at the Crooked Tree Gallery.

CROSSINGS: A Journey Through Northern Michigan History

The boy is restless, anxious for his journey to continue, listening carefully to the train as it moves over the tracks toward its northern Michigan destination. As he looks out the window, he becomes aware of a whispering... a strange language and he is lifted from the train, flying above and back in time.

And thus, his journey begins.

As the boy travels through history, he is taught by his Native American guide and sees first hand the many people who had a hand in making our area great. He learns of the Ojibwa tribes, the settlers, explorers and lumbermen. He experiences seasons as only northern Michigan provides and collects talismans along the way.

But as quickly and magically as the journey begins, it ends as he awaits his parents at a point where your treasure can be found.

Join the boy, learn about our area and discover clues to the whereabouts of the $5,000 treasure.
