F.I.T. (Fitness Iniative Targeting )Kids Program:

A cardiovascular risk screening program targeting fifth grade students in Charlevoix and Antrim County.  The program consists of education in the areas of cardiovascular risk factors (nutrition, physical activity, family history), a physical screening for cholesterol, BMI, blood pressure, diabetes and aerobic activity, and post screening education discussing results and encouraging healthy lifestyle activities.  F.I.T. Kids is an interactive program to raise health awareness in both the children and their families, while at the same time providing a "fun" educational experience that will hopefully last a lifetime.                                                            

Let's Get Moving Northern Michigan:

A regional fitness iniative designed to help people to be active on a regular basis.

Read to Me:

Books are provided to Boyne City, Charlevoix, East Jordan, and Beaver Island Doctors' offices to give to parents during well child exams to encourage reading with their children.  Over 1,000 books were distributed this year.

Newborn/Infant hospital bags and books:

A joint effort with the Charlevoix Public Library to provide new parents with bags, books, and health information pamphlets at the time of hospital discharge.  Also, books are provided to young children admitted to the hospital.

Worksite Wellness:

Health screenings provided to local worksites which include cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, and health history screenings.

Brown Bag Lunches:

30-45 minute educational discussions provided during employee lunchtimes.

Tri 4 Fun/Pink Ribbon Ride:

Collaboration with area resources to help plan these fund raising events. Both support our Cancer Resource Room at CAH.

Hospital and Career Exploration Tours:

Open to students preschool through college age.

Healthy School Assessment Tool Facilitation:

Provide schools with an assessment tool developed to assist them with wellness policy development.

Community Educational Events

Health presentations provided to community members at the Charlevoix Public Library.  Topics include Daibetes and Glycemic Index, Colorectal Cancer(with free screening and testing), Arthritis, Breast Cancer, and Cardiovascular Disease. Leukemia/Lymphoma presentations via REMEC.

School Education:

Participate in High school, middle, and elementary school career days.

Newsletters:

Three to four per year for the Cancer Resources and Diabetes departments.

Blood Drives:

Conducted at CAH three times per year.

S.O.S.(sight on success):

Collaborative event with Charlevoix Zonta Club, providing education to Charlevoix County middle school girls in the areas of self esteem, goal setting, and confidence building.
