- to receive medical care in a safe setting
- to considerate, respectful care
- to receive information about your condition, the proposed course of treatment, and your prospects for recovery in clear, easy-to-understand terms
- to participate in your plan for care—including the right to choose that your treatment be discontinued in accordance with existing law
- to have any pain you experience evaluated and managed effectively
- to be interviewed and examined in surroundings designed to protect your privacy
- to be free from restraints that are not medically necessary
- to information about any experimental program proposed as part of your care, and the right to refuse to participate in the program if you choose
- to request and receive pastoral care
- to privacy, and the assurance that information provided to healthcare givers will be kept confidential, as required by law
- to adopt an advance medical directive—a legally acceptable way to give instructions about your own medical care—and name another person to make care decisions on your behalf if you’re unable to communicate your wishes
