Medical Center welcomes two new family physicians

The Boyne area is growing—and to meet increased demand for family healthcare, a local medical facility is welcoming a young Grand Rapids couple to its physician staff.

Andrea L. Wendling, MD, and her husband Michael J. Harmeling, MD, join Doctors Craig Boss, Pam Knysz, and Catherine Wonski at Boyne Area Medical Center. The two physicians will offer primary care to adults and children, and also provide routine prenatal care in cooperation with area OB/Gyns James Jeakle, MD, and William Mosher, MD.

“The Harmeling-Wendling team is a terrific addition to our staff,” says Patti Fitzgerald, who—along with Kathy Stutzman—manages the office. “Both physicians are dedicated to family practice, have impressive academic and clinical records, and bring a wealth of experience to the Medical Center. We feel very fortunate to have them here.”

Dr. Harmeling, who began seeing patients this month, holds a BS in Biomedical Sciences from The University of Michigan and earned his MD at The University of Michigan School of Medicine in 1994. He completed his family practice residency in Grand Rapids and has been a family physician at Advantage Health Physicians in Grand Rapids since 1997.

Family physicians Michael Harmeling, MD, and Andrea Wendling, MD, have joined the Boyne Area Medical Center staff. The couple, both University of Michigan School of Medicine grads, has been practicing at Advantage Health in Grand Rapids since 1997.

Dr. Wendling also earned her BS degree and Doctor of Medicine from The University of Michigan, and has been in practice as a family physician at Advantage Health in Grand Rapids. For the past three years, she has served as Assistant Director of the Grand Rapids Family Practice Residency, where she coordinated the obstetrics, pediatrics, and neonatal ICU curricula. This year, the Grand Rapids Family Practice Residency selected Dr. Wendling for an Outstanding Teacher Award, and she has received numerous other teaching accolades from the American Academy of Family Physicians and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, where she was an assistant professor. She will begin seeing patients at the Boyne Area Medical Center in October.

Both Dr. Harmeling and Dr. Wendling are certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians, and members of the American Medical Association and Michigan Academy of Family Physicians. The couple and their three children will make their home in Charlevoix. To schedule an appointment with either Dr. Wendling or Dr. Harmeling, please call the Boyne Area Medical Center, (231) 582-5314.
