Room to Grow
Boyne Area Medical Center expands, adds new doctors

After an extensive, eight-month construction and renovation project, Boyne Area Medical Center is now bigger and better than ever—and ready to accept new patients.

With three physicians and 8,700 patients, the Center has been operating at capacity and was in need of more space and additional doctors to serve the area’s growing population. Completion of the remodeling project is perfectly timed to coincide with the arrival of the Center’s two new family physicians, Andrea L. Wendling, M.D., and Michael J. Harmeling, M.D., who begin seeing patients this month.

"We’re delighted to welcome our newest doctors," says Kathy Stutzman, who serves as the Center’s office co-manager. "Coupled with our expansion, their arrival gives us the capacity to see more patients. The renovation creates a more comfortable, spacious medical facility that enhances medical services," Stutzman adds. "I think patients will really be pleased."

With the addition of two new family physicians, and 2,200 square feet, Boyne Area Medical Center is ready to see more patients. Pictured outside the medical center’s Park Street office are doctors N. Craig Boss, MD, Pamela Kynsz, MD, new doctors Michael Harmeling, MD and Andrea Wendling, MD, along with Catherine Wonski, MD.

The remodeling adds 2,200 square feet to the Medical Center, increasing its size by one-third. Included in the new addition are four more patient exam rooms, a mammography room, expanded lab, procedure room for minor surgeries, and physician offices, as well as a new reception and waiting area, medical records room, and staff lounge.

Affiliated with Charlevoix Area Hospital, Boyne Area Medical Center was established in 1997 to offer comprehensive primary care to adults and children. Family practitioners N. Craig Boss, MD, Pamela Kynsz, MD, and Catherine Wonski, MD, along with seven nurses, and other health professionals staff the Center. James Jeakle, MD, provides obstetrical and gynecological care at the Center once a week; and general surgeon Craig Wendt, MD, periodically sees post-operative patients there as well.

Almost all types of non-emergency preventive care and treatment are offered at the Center—from infant care, well-baby visits, and immunizations, to adult physical exams, reproductive health services, and routine treatment of minor illness or injury. Patients come from the nearby Boyne area, and from as far away as Mackinaw City, Beaver Island, and Alpena.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house is scheduled later this fall, when the public will be invited to tour the Center. Boyne Area Medical Center is located at 223 Park Street in Boyne City.
