CHARLEVOIX AREA HOSPITAL RECEIVES 2004 GOVERNOR’S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FOR IMPROVING CARE

Charlevoix Area Hospital has received MPRO’s, Michigan’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization’s (QIO), prestigious 2004 Governor’s Award of Excellence (GAE) for Improving Care in the Hospital Setting and in the Emergency setting for pneumonia.

“Few things affect the quality of our life and the quality of our work more than our good health,” said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm.  “Every person in this great state deserves to receive quality health care from their providers, so I am pleased to recognize hospitals and health care professionals that are making progress toward providing our citizens with accessible and affordable health care.”

In concert with the Governor, the GAE honors Michigan hospitals that are performing quality initiatives aimed at improving outcomes in patient care.  The clinical topics that the award measures have been designated as national health care priorities by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  Charlevoix Area Hospital established a multidisciplinary team to spearhead improvement measures using proven, evidence-based practices.

“Governor Granholm’s endorsement of this quality improvement award mirrors her agenda in her administrations’ commitment to improve the quality of health care for all of Michigan’s residents,” said Debra L. Moss, MD, MBA, president and chief executive officer, MPRO.  Dr Moss added, “As Michigan’s QIO, MPRO is privileged to partner with the Governor to recognize hospitals such as Charlevoix Area Hospital, that are achieving measured improvements in the patient care.”

“Our staff at Charlevoix Area Hospital is demonstrating that together we are providing the very best in medical treatment and care.  Our efforts have been enhanced through our collaborations with MPRO.  We are extremely proud to be a recipient of this distinguished award, said Bill Jackson, President, Charlevoix Area Hospital.
